"I hope so." Wesley tightened his arms around Spike briefly, then stepped back a bit. "Could I interest you in dinner of some sort? If nothing in the house appeals, we could always go out."

Spike was sorry to lose the contact between them, but he let go when Wesley moved away. "That's your call," he said. "I'm fine with some more blood and whatever's in the kitchen, but I'm happy to go out if that'll tempt you to eat a proper meal."

An earlier start had the potential for an earlier return, so Spike nodded. "Sounds good."

Spike blinked, surprised both by the change of subject and the still startling thought of the two of them actually living together. "Why's that?"

Spike chuckled. "Though you never know when it might be useful again. Pays to plan ahead."

Spike was speechless for a long moment. He wasn't used to anyone offering to adapt to his needs. "I don't expect you to change your life for me," he finally managed to say.

When Wesley looked up at him, Spike realized that he was coming rather close to gaping. It was such a tempting thought, though when things fell apart, as they had to, it would be that much more difficult for them both. "Yes," he said somewhat hoarsely. It was the only answer he could give.

Once Wesley's lips met his, Spike broke free from his daze enough to return the kiss enthusiastically, pouring his gratitude and his love into the gesture. It was nearly impossible for him to believe that Wesley's suggestion was real, but there was no question how much he wanted to have a place to belong with someone who loved him. With Wesley.

"Stop doing what?" he asked when their mouths parted again.

"I can't help it if I'm irresistible," Spike said, but his small, pleased smile took away from the attitude of his words.

"Hmm, what's my incentive again?" Spike asked, unable to get the smile to leave his lips.

"Right." Spike pulled back one of the chairs at the table and took a seat to keep out of Wesley's way. "I'll try to tone down my charm, then... at least until you've eaten."

"Then there isn't as much reason not to distract you, is there?" Spike replied, leaning back in his chair.

"So what do you find the most distracting about me? Just so I know what to try to control," Spike said with mock earnestness.

Spike's smile grew, and he made no attempt to stifle it. "Yeah? Might have a problem there, pet, since I seem to smile a lot around you."

"Sorry," Spike said, though he very clearly wasn't. "No smiling. No talking. Want me to go into another room?"

Spike snorted. "Seems like you're plenty busy already," he said, gesturing to the stove despite the fact that Wesley wasn't looking at him.

"What do you want me to do, then?" Spike asked, leaning back further and crossing his arms comfortably over his chest. The smile remained on his face as he watched Wesley cook. "Where's the line between keeping you company and distracting you?"

"What about? I doubt a hundred-twenty-plus years of death and destruction is of that much interest even to an ex-Watcher." Spike paused, thinking. "Though I did see some brilliant concerts."

Spike shrugged. "Somehow I don't think a story about partying with Joey Ramone after a gig at CBGB is going to be thrilling for you."

Spike studied the surface of the table as he considered the subject. "Dru could be very loyal," he said finally. "Not that she always was, of course, but when she wasn't talking to the furniture or running off with chaos demons her little family mattered to her most. I think she was happiest when the four of us were together, but even when it was just me and her she always had this light in her eyes, even when we weren't killing. She loved to be loved." He straightened up slightly and pulled back from those melancholy memories, since that desire to be loved had taken her out of Spike's arms as well as kept her in them. "And she was never dull. I might have had to tie her down to keep her from going out to pick flowers at noon, but that could be fun, too." Looking up, he grinned slightly.

"Most of the time," Spike replied. "But, then, I was pretty unpredictable, myself. I liked never knowing what she'd come up with next."

"Dru did surprise herself a lot, that's true," Spike said with a brief grin. "As for loyalty, it's uncommon enough it's worth noting."

"In my experience, yeah." After a moment of reflection and re-examination of the surface of the table, Spike added, "Well, loyalty to me, anyway. Other people seem to get a lot more of it."
