Wesley sighed with relief as he realized that they were nearly home. He wanted to hole up in the flat with Spike and pretend for a few hours that nothing was wrong.

"Thanks for the vote of support," Spike said dryly, trying not to take too much offense. "Did you ever think I might not get hurt?"

"He's probably twice your size," Wesley said. "I'm sure you both would have ended up hurt."

That didn't entirely soothe Spike's hurt feelings. "Twice my... Well, he is looking bloated these days." He paused as they reached the front door of the building. "Now who's going to open that?"

Wesley edged closer to the door, shifting the bags to one side of his hand. "That would be me," he said, managing to get a grip and pull the door open, albeit slowly.
