"I hope so." Wesley tightened his arms around Spike briefly, then stepped back a bit. "Could I interest you in dinner of some sort? If nothing in the house appeals, we could always go out."

Spike studied the surface of the table as he considered the subject. "Dru could be very loyal," he said finally. "Not that she always was, of course, but when she wasn't talking to the furniture or running off with chaos demons her little family mattered to her most. I think she was happiest when the four of us were together, but even when it was just me and her she always had this light in her eyes, even when we weren't killing. She loved to be loved." He straightened up slightly and pulled back from those melancholy memories, since that desire to be loved had taken her out of Spike's arms as well as kept her in them. "And she was never dull. I might have had to tie her down to keep her from going out to pick flowers at noon, but that could be fun, too." Looking up, he grinned slightly.

"Most of the time," Spike replied. "But, then, I was pretty unpredictable, myself. I liked never knowing what she'd come up with next."
