He shrugged slightly --there might not be any point to convincing Spike that he'd thought the vampire would want to, as one would imagine that would be obvious. That maybe it would make him special, somehow, to Spike. That it would create some sort of bond between them.
His own personal reasons probably went deeper, and he wasn't sure he wanted to examine them that closely.
