Wesley muffled a groan against Spike's shoulder, mouthing at the skin there before scraping his teeth across it. "Very persuasive," he agreed.

A little moan escaped from Spike's throat at the movement. "All depends on what you're staked with, I suppose," he said with a bit of a grin.

Wesley stood and let Spike begin to undress him, not looking down because he still hadn't quite come to terms with the new scar on his abdomen. He knew it would fade with time. Instead, he concentrated on running his own hands up and down along Spike's sides, enjoying the warmth the skin had absorbed while they'd been in the sunshine.

"Kissing you's never difficult," Spike replied, unconsciously shifting his loose hold on Wesley so that he was sure he wasn't touching any spots that might be tender. The heat from the sun was soaking into his clothes, which was quite pleasant if still a bit alarming.

New York City, 5 weeks later...

Wesley was sitting in a patch of sunshine on a small rug in the living room of their new apartment and sorting through a box of assorted things, none of which appeared to have any relation to the others. It was as if the moving crew that had ended up doing nearly all of their packing for them had walked randomly through the old flat, choosing one or two things from each room. He was now trying to sort them into piles based on where they ought to end up. Without looking, he reached into the box again, this time bringing out a handful of take-away menus that were clearly going to be of no use in New York.

"Were the movers completely mad?" he called to Spike.

Spike quirked his eyebrow. "Can't imagine that happens to you often."

Wesley shook his head and curled his fingers into Spike's shirt again. "No, I want to stay like this. With you."

Spike climbed back up onto the extra bed, leaving enough room between them that he wouldn't jar Wesley if he moved. He leaned against the upright back and gave Wesley a wan, apologetic smile. "All right?"

"Maybe not if you did it from upstairs?" Wesley suggested. "And then snuck the food down when no one was looking."

Spike kept his eyes closed and swallowed around a lump in his throat. "It's all right, love. You'll only get better." He wasn't sure that Wesley needed the reassurance, but he needed to hear the words, himself.

Wesley smiled. "I think so. A small one, at least." He was starting to become aware of being uncomfortable again, but he wanted to do this. Focusing on the future felt important. "There's no shower," he said, puzzled. "How can there not be a shower?"

Spike set the water on the table beside Wesley, feeling like he had failed to understand something important, but he didn't know what. Unusually discouraged, he settled for focusing on the mundane. "Tell me if you want more and you're not up to getting it, all right?"

"Okay." Wesley kept his eyes on Spike, unable to keep from smiling slightly just because he was able to look at him. "I suppose that means I have to let go of you."

"I'm always right," Spike said, smiling more broadly and taking the hand Wesley offered. "How are you feeling? Doc said you'd get to start on real food today if you can stay awake long enough to eat it."

"Being hurt doesn't give me an excuse to act badly," Wesley protested. "You aren't making things more difficult. I don't know what I'd do if you weren't here."

A little thrill went through Spike every time he heard those words. "I love you, too. So much. The thought of losing you was - " He broke off, not wanting to put that burden on Wesley. It wasn't his fault or his problem. "Let's just say I'm glad you're as strong as you are."

"Believe me, I don't want to hurt, either," Wesley said. "Not too much, at any rate."

"Yeah, I do," Angel said, looking right at Spike. "Don't worry -- I'm not gonna make the same mistakes again."

"Nah, you'll just make new ones," Spike said, shooting Angel a grin. He grew pensive again, though, as he went back to watching Wesley sleep. "They're good people, better than we are. They don't deserve all this."
